OUR STORY

Angelina and Max met in high school, but their story doesn’t start until years later. It started as one of those friendships of grabbing a coffee or lunch every time Angelina was home on break from college. With a last-minute invite to a sorority formal, Max found himself on an airplane to Dallas. One thing led to another, and Max and Angelina found themselves in a long-distance relationship.

Post-graduation Angelina moved to Chicago and Max remained in LA. Another year living across the country from each other, living through late night phone calls and hopping on an airplane whenever possible. When the pandemic hit, Angelina moved back to Newport and the rest is history! Finally in the same state, living four miles apart to be exact, Angelina and Max couldn’t spend enough time together.

Fast forward two years and a trip to Italy later, Angelina and Max are engaged! What started off as a fun family vacation, ended up with Max surprising Angelina with a romantic getaway in Lake Como.

We are beyond thrilled to celebrate with our families and friends where we agreed to forever. Lake Como will always have a special place in our hearts, and we are excited to share this special place with you all.

Lake Como is located just 40 minutes north of Milan and is easily accessible by train or car from most cities in Italy. Our villa is situated near the bottom of the lake and ferries run throughout the day to other lake towns. Lake Como has many wonderful hotels and Villas located near our wedding venue, Villa Erba. We recommend the below hotels.

Please Note: passports must be valid for six months beyond the date you leave the United States.

Sheraton Lake Como

Hotel Miralago

Recommendations

Bellagio – One of the most iconic cities on the lake filled with beautiful gardens and scenery. A perfect place to spend a day, with scenic streets filled with boutiques, cafés, and gelaterias (of course). Be sure to check out Salita Serbelloni, one of the most popular streets across all the lake towns.

Bellagio fun fact: Max took Angelina across the lake to Bellagio right before he proposed. We pretty much sprinted through the town to make it back before the big event.

Lenno – Home to some of the most famous villas on the lake. Best known for the picturesque Villa del Balbianello, which has been featured in both Star Wars and James Bond movies. The villa is a 15-minute walk from the ferry stop, or a short water taxi to approach from the water. While the walk along the water is beautiful, taking a taxi to see how stunning the villa is from the water comes highly recommended.

Tremezzo – The place Max proposed to Angelina, so this town holds a special place in our hearts. Stop for a Spritz at the famous Da Giacomo al Lago (beachfront at the Grand Hotel Tremezzo), and check out Villa Carlotta while you are nearby.

Varenna – Spend an afternoon walking around Varenna’s old town center. Varenna is much quieter than towns like Bellagio or Como but holds just as much beauty. Stop by Villa Monastero or Vezio Castle for some sightseeing, or just relax along the picturesque waterfront promenade. Looking for an adventure? Varenna has several hiking trails including the historic Sentiero del Viandante once connecting Milan to Switzerland.

Cernobbio – Where most of our wedding weekend will take place! Clearly one of our favorite places on the lake. Spend an afternoon wandering the picturesque streets and stop for an aperittivo at one of the local cafes.

Do I need a visa to travel to Italy? What are the travel requirements?

Currently you do not need a visa to travel to Italy. However, if you plan on extending your trip, please check travel and visa requirements for all countries you plan on visiting. Countries have various passport expiration requirements. Please ensure your passport has at least six months of validity.

How do I get to Como?

We suggest taking a flight to Milan for your trip. Milan has two airports - Milan Malpensa Airport (MXP) and Milan Linate Airport (LIN). MXP is the larger airport and is located slightly closer to Como than LIN, however, LIN is slightly closer to the Milan city center. Once you arrive at either airport, you can take a short train, taxi, or private transfer to Lake Como. We have found setting up a transfer through your hotel before arriving is a quick and easy way to get to Como or central Milan. There are direct flight options available from Chicago and New York to Milan. For our guests traveling from LAX, we recommend connecting through London Heathrow or taking a direct flight to Rome. Rome is three hours away from Milan by high-speed train or one hour by plane.

**Please note the Olympic Closing Ceremony will be taking place in Paris, France on August 11th.

Will transportation be provided?

Transportation will be provided for both the Welcome Party and the Wedding Day. Transportation will not be provided to the send-off brunch as the pool just a short walk or car from our recommended hotels. Please visit our Transportation page for detailed information.

What is the itinerary? And what should I wear?

Please visit our events page for detailed information on timing and attire. There will be grass, gravel and cobblestone throughout all of our venues. Block or wedge heels are recommended.
